In 1995 Mom brought home a new kitten. Her first calico cat, Calico, had gone to Kitty Heaven at age 19½ late in 1993. Here she is with her brothers and sisters. She's the calico top center in the photo. . . .
The family was having a hard time figuring out a name for her. Mom wrote a poem about how they finally named her Poetry. A few years later Mom wrote the stories in the Prequel about her and Gabriel the Snowman. After the first Poetry went to Kitty Heaven in 2007 Mom got Gabriel, the little white dog and wrote a story, Gabriel's Tale, about Gabriel the snowman turning into a little white dog who goes looking for his best friend, Poetry the Calico Cat. Once Gabriel found Poetry in the story I came to live with the family for real! Mom named me "Poetry, Too", but everyone just calls me Poetry for short. Here is Mom's poem:
Kitten
There was a sweet kitten
Who had no name....what a pity
How about Tasha or maybe mitten
then it was Louisa and even kitty.
We were getting worried
Wondering if she'd be confused
But this was too important....mustn't be hurried
By now my family was quite amused.
But lo and behold it came to me
Why not name her Poetry?
She's Poetry in motion
Her rhythmic purring
Her antics like waves in the ocean
Sets my heartstrings stirring.
So now we are all happy
While we watch Poetry romp and play
(I hope this poem's not too sappy)
The question now is....will she ever learn to obey?!

Ahh Poetry looks so cute as a kitten. We have had always had rescue adult cats, I wondered what they looked like as kittens! I also wondered how Poetry got her name! Sarah x
ReplyDeleteMom chose the name Poetry because when she and Dad were dating they talked about naming a daughter Poetry (they used to write poetry to each other ��) but since they never had a daughter they decided to give the name to the first Poetry and then I got it. I was 9 months old when I came to live with Gabriel, so I wasn't as little as the first Poetry. ��
