Poetry & Gabriel in Scotland - Chapter 6: A Surprise Awaits

Chapter 6 – A Surprise Awaits

“There you two are!” exclaimed the Mrs. of the House as the three little boys crowded around in the entry hall.  Everyone started chattering at the same time until the Mr. of the House strolled in from the front room singing…..

By yon bonnie banks and by yon bonnie braes,

Where the sun shines bright on Loch Lomond,

Where me and my true love were ever won't to gae

On the bonnie bonnie banks o' Loch Lomond
Chorus:
O' ye'll tak the high road and I'll tak the low road,

And I'll be in Scotland afore ye;

But me and my true love will never meet again,

On a the bonnie bonnie banks o' Loch Lomond

He broke off from his song and admonished, “I say everyone.  Let them get all the way into the house at least!”

Poetry and Gabriel looked at each other and then back at the crowd in the hall.  When their eyebrows went up in the air like question marks the littlest boy started giggling.  “Look Mommy.  They look so funny!”  His little sister, who was in their mother’s arms, had enough of all the noise and commotion and started wailing.

“Ok.  That’s enough everyone,” the Mr. of the House chided.  “Everyone calm down.  Let’s gather in the kitchen and discuss our news while we get supper on the table.”

Everyone headed for the kitchen eager to hear about the surprise.  Once they were seated at the table and Poetry and Gabriel at their bowls on the floor the Mr. of the House tapped his knife on the side of his glass.

Tink, Tink.  “I have an announcement to make.  Remember that vacation we were planning to take on Loch Lomond?”  All eyes and ears were focused on the Mr. of the House.  The little boys had been excited for some time about the vacation promised for spring break.  “I found us a little cottage to stay in near Luss.”

“Yay!” the cheer went up from all three little boys.  The baby cooed her pleasure, not because she understood where they were going but because her brothers were so excited.  Poetry and Gabriel joined in the excitement by running around the room.

That evening everyone was tucked safely into their beds dreaming of the fun adventures that awaited them all.
